Last year I documented my ‘bucket list’ of creative goals for that year and had a great response.
So I will be doing it again this year but I plan on being more focused on specific things that are missing from my portfolio. I have a lot of extra time on my hands these days so should be extra focus. So sit tight, grab a cup of tea and let’s get started.
Animation - Character
First of all I have very little in character animation work and it is definitely something I need to learn and improve on. This will be studying how things move and muscle structure for 3D animations etc. One problem I have is rigging. This is a where I really struggle in when it comes to animation, one alternative is to find a pre-rigged character and practice different styles of walk and run and more. I also want to explore 2D character animation more. I had a brief play a year or so ago but now I have time to have a good focus on it.
Modelling – Low Poly
I have been making a game called ‘Sleuth’ as part of Maplescot Development so I need to have a better understanding of low-poly modelling especially character work (and also animating for games) I aim to create more assets for the game while also learning the programming side of it. I am also looking at doing regular weekend challenges for the Blender Artists Community which will help me keep an eye on my polygon count a speed modelling.
Modelling - High Poly
I really enjoy the high resolution stuff. I am liking getting into the details of something. So for this year I want to concentrate on animals and beasts. Get into understanding muscle, bone structure and facial details like eye ducts and wrinkles around the mouth and ears. I have so far done busts and heads but now want to get into full bodied animals and characters. Possible move into human like characters when I get the confidence to try that again.
So that is my plan for 2019. A lot to think about but can’t wait to see what comes from it.
