Goals for 2019 – July to September Update

Mmm pumpkin spice latte

Booo cold, wet weather

Yup, it’s time for the autumn update. For you new readers out there, last year I started tracking my personal development on LinkedIn. I moved it to my blog this year when I launched my new site.

Click here for part 1 and part 2 to discover more about my adventures.

I am a little late this month, but it has been very busy with lots of things going on work-wise and personal development. But I am heading home after video making and meeting attending so time to get this blog written.

*Sips PSL*

Animation – Character

So I completed my short series. As you will see from my last update I was creating a series of animations about a day in the life of me to help expand my knowledge and understanding of character animation in After Effects.

In total I did 7 animated shorts, I have created a project page for it on my website.

I also created a twitter moment for it.

I still have some stuff to learn. I might consider a character animation course once I have completed my current course. But for now still working on some smaller side projects. Twitter is always being updated with my progress on things.

Modelling – Low Poly

I do not have an update for this. It has simply gone to the side as other things take over.

Drink more PSL I think.

Oh, actually I do have an update. I did a 3D render in Cinema 4d lite and After Effects to celebrate the start of autumn. Also, my first attempt at a portrait render.

'Hello Autumn' made using Cinema4DLite and After Effects

I still struggle to navigate Cinema4D but actually pretty happy with this as my first outing in C4D without a tutorial.

Modelling – High poly

BLENDER 2.8 IS OUT!

Its been soooo long but Blender 2.8 is out and it was worth the wait. I was literally like a kid on Christmas day

Yup this was pretty much my expression when I opened Blender 2.8

First thing was to check out what improvements were made to cycles render using a project from last year

I know it highlighted some issues with the texturing but my goodness it has really improved some areas.

Next stop Eevee. Eevee is Blender’s new internal rendering engine. Mostly used for preview rendering but can be used for final outputs. And I have to say it is a big improvement. I am able to navigate faster and get a better impression of how my scene will look.

Rendered using Eevee

As you can see I am working very slowly on my current project as I tend to have little time during the week to give it my full attention. Oh, it works with my 3D mouse in custom mode!!!!

*Another sip of PSL, everything should be made with pumpkin spice*

In other news…

I started a Unity 3D game development course on Udemy. Been at it for a few weeks and only at 40% complete. If you read my posts on Linkedin from last year you would have seen I was already learning. Well, I ran into an issue that was beyond my skillset so I decided to go back to square one. I did enjoy doing it but I just don’t have the knowledge or skill-set to tackle creating a complex game

This is my progress so far

If you are thinking about doing a course I really recommend this one. It’s not just a walk-through but also allows you to learn on your own. Getting some experience in researching and developing your own coding style and that I just love.

And that’s it for this update and that’s it for this pumpkin spice latte.

As usual, I am on social media. Mainly twitter and LinkedIn. And mostly sharing funny animal gifs but feel free to connect. There is also my blog which is full of very interesting musings.
