So this originally started out as a twitter post but started growing and I ended up putting it on the blog.
I have recently been listening to a podcast series called 99 problems (but a boss ain’t one)
(Other podcasts are available but why would you?)
I listened to episode 30 I think and got hooked so I started from the beginning and yesterday I listened to Episode 21 – Celebrating success; discussing how to recognise a good result, no matter how small, and how to celebrate it. What I learnt was this is particularly hard for the self-employed, I agreed because I am always quite hard on myself anyway.
And then this morning I was browsing twitter on the train I was seeing more tweets about self-employed celebrating success no matter how big or small and sharing that with everyone and the importance of community.
I will be honest, I have not been having the greatest of weeks. A lot of self doubt, irritation and things not going to plan. So, instead of the negative I am going to look find the positive. (I say this as I spill tea all over my desk)
1. I achieved my weight loss goal so I bought myself a Unity 3D course on Udemy
2. I had a good phone call with a potential new client about doing motion graphics for a video. Had a lot of WhatsApp messages afterwards. Don’t think anything paid will come through right now but new contact made
3. I completed a bit of a personal project I have been working on for a few weeks
4. I got my business cards designed!!!!!! (Just need to get them printed)
5. Upgraded my website and got a domain name www.panda-motion.co.uk
6. Remembered my reusable mug for coffee at Pret
7. Receiving praise for some icons I made for an info-graphic last week, and then then requesting permission to be used in other company communications
8. Extension of 2 months on my current contract
9. Spelled door as doo (I know not a huge accomplishment but it is funny)
As I said, this started out as a tweet and look how it can grow when you really look at the wins of the week. Michelle and Katy were right! Despite all the train delays, dead end project leads, self doubting, impostor syndrome monster lurking, and the disgraceful waste of tea on my desk there is still something to celebrate.
I have been self-employed since February and still building up relationships with other freelancers, I want to help build that community by all of us sharing the good and the bad no matter what.
I would like to hear what your success have been this week? Your favourite doughnut was in stock? Landed new client? Managed to no spill your tea? Anything I want to hear it and celebrate it. In fact, how do you celebrate?
I hear the Pumpkin Spice Latte is returning to Starbucks soon! Lets meet for coffee?
Cyber high-five to all you self-employed people!
